Visit the United Nations
The United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) was established on 1 January 1980 as the third United Nations Headquarters after New York and Geneva. It is located in the impressive modern setting of the Vienna International Centre (VIC), next to the Austria Centre. The Government of Austria handed over the VIC complex to the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency for the symbolic rental sum of one Austrian schilling (equivalent to 0.07 euro today) a year for 99 years.
The VIC complex, which covers an area of 180,000 m², has extraterritorial status. The VIC comprises about 4,500 offices and 9 conference rooms and accommodates about 4,000 international civil servants from about 120 countries. The Y-shaped office towers are between 48 meters and 120 meters high.
The Vienna International Centre is the home to members of the United Nations family working for peace, human rights and development. They seek to use atoms for peace, to reduce poverty through sustainable industrial development, to ban nuclear testing, to bring the benefits of the peaceful uses of outer space to every part of the world, to remove legal obstacles to international trade, and to make the world safer from drugs, crime and terrorism.
Vienna International Centre warmly invites participants of events held at the Austria Centre to come and learn more about us on a guided tour. The visitors will receive an introduction to the work and mandate of the United Nations. We will explain how the work of the UN in Vienna relates to the wider UN system. After that visitors will be shown some of the many permanent and temporary exhibits and works of art from all over the world. Visitors will also have the chance to see conference rooms where important treaty negotiations have taken place, see an original Hundertwasser tapestry, a real piece of rock from the Moon donated by NASA and much more.
Price: Discount for participants of Austria Center Vienna events – 4 EUR.
