World premiere for a Science Slam at the ECSS MetropolisRuhr 2017

At the 22nd ECSS Sport Science congress in Metropolis Ruhr the organizers will introduce a new presentation format. The congress presidents Alexander Ferrauti and Petra Platen are expecting that this event will obtain huge recognition:

”A Science Slam is a communication format especially for young scientists to explain their research projects in an entertaining way to a non-specialist audience”.

Five presentations are bed in a short gig of a local music band. Anchorman Prof. Daniel Hahn will introduce the topics, which cover a broad range of sport science disciplines including Sport Psychology (“Sleep and recovery in spots”), Sports Medicine (“Training of Anaerobic Capacity”), Biomechanics (“Motion Analysis of squat Exercise”) and Training Science (“Relaxation strategies for muscles” and “Prevention of low back pain”). The actors are coming from India, Australia, UK, Japan and Germany. The audience will expect live demonstrations with props and creative, visual presentations and will also be interactively involved by participating in a quiz game via their mobile phones or tablet PCs. Finally, the audience will get to vote for their favourite Science Slam and celebrates the winner. The winner will obtain free registration for the ECSS Congress in Dublin 2018 and an ECSS membership.

Students from all Faculties of the Ruhr-University Bochum and from the Hochschule für Gesundheit are welcome. Entrance is free and food and drinks are offered by the student body of the Faculty of Sport Science starting at 18:00.
